We are saving 130 kg of wood waste from incineration, binding 22 kg of carbon, with every cubic meter of our acoustic panels. All organic, no harmful additives, no waste.

Why use mycelium?

Why use mycelium?

(1)
Mycelium binds organic waste, storing carbon in the material
(2)
Production is a natural growth process, that is circular and using minimal resources
(3)
Grown to shape, no offcuts or leftovers during production
(4)
Recycles and reuses waste, considered underutilized resources
(5)
It can safely return to nature after end-of-life, and even enrich soil with nutrients

Mycela aims to create positive environmental value with fungal solutions, supporting the UNs Sustainable Development Goals.

CIRCULAR AND BIOBASED
As designers and producers, we need to rethink the manufacturing process and challenge the use of materials with high environmental costs. We have already witnessed the scarcity and increased pricing of raw materials such as minerals, wood and oil. Polluting materials should become substituted with materials that are biobased, circular and storing carbon.
LOCAL WASTE-TO-RESOURCE
What others might call waste or residues, we call valuable resources. Using fungi we bind untapped resources such as waste and byproducts from the Nordic agriculture and wood industry. By reducing the amount of waste going to landfill or incineration, we also reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Good for the planet - good for the people.
A GOOD MATERIAL JOURNEY
Mycelium acts as a natural glue that binds waste during its growth and is naturally water-repellent, self-extinguishing, and insulating for both sound and temperature. We add no glues or chemicals. Our resources are locally sourced: organic and abundant ingredients only, supporting growth before, during and after end-of-life.
